Homeowners Spring Cleaning Checklist

OUTSIDE

  • Remove burlap from outside plants
  • Clean window wells of debris
  • Check for loose or cracked shingles
  • Reconnect outside garden hose and check for leaks
  • Remove winter cover from air conditioning unit and inspect unit.
  • Vacuum or brush out coils
  • Check/clean eavestroughs and downspouts for blockages
  • Check caulking for cracking or detachment and signs of water penetration
  • Check air intakes and exhaust are clear of debris, nests, etc.
  • Replace weather stripping if damaged
  • Use a pressure washer to clean the home’s exteriorThe recommended strength for either an electric- or a gas powered pressure washer is 1200-3000psi; the higher the power, the higher the pressure.
  • Prune trees and hedgesTop-up gardens with fresh soil
  • Rake lawn of dead leaves and dead grass
  • Fertilize lawn and overseed
  • Clean outside coach lights

INSIDE

  • Clean or replace furnace filter
  • Clean humidifier
  • Check sump pump and float for overall operation
  • Check dryer vent for any blockages
  • Test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Clean windows on interior of mold or mildew
  • Windex interior and exterior windows
  • Check and reset ground fault circuit interrupters
  • Check water heater for leaks
